CHORD Programme – Argyll & Bute Council Town Centre and Waterfront Regeneration Projects (Campbeltown, Helensburgh, Oban, Rothesay and Dunoon)
The eagerly awaited announcement of the Council’s CHORD Programme Board decision on the running order for the eight projects in the five towns will be debated in a closed session at the next meeting of the Council Executive this Thursday 18th June.
Helensburgh & Lomond SNP Councillor James Robb commented:
“This is an exempt item but I believe it is a debate that the public have a right to hear and I have urged the Council Leader to re-consider. There may be a few details which may be commercially sensitive but the rest should see public scrutiny. I am disappointed that the two Helensburgh projects despite being the most economically advantageous and deliverable are placed 5 and 6 in the order of eight projects. Helensburgh appears to have been held back by the process whilst other towns are accelerated. I am no longer an Executive member to fight our corner and given that the Council Leader approved the original Programme Board decision and our two local Independent Executive members, Councillors Dance and Freeman, will follow the Leader I expect no changes will be made.
I am sure the Helensburgh Project Board, despite this disappointment, will re-double its efforts to ensure that the projects to improve the town centre and esplanade are delivered in 2013 and stand ready to take advantage of any slippage elsewhere in the programme.”
