Scots golfer Gary Orr dedicates outstanding round to late coach

GARY ORR shot a superb 67 to move into third at the Castello Masters - then admitted the memory of his former coach had inspired his surge.

Orr's bogey-free round included four birdies but the Helensburgh ace revealed it was an emotionally draining round at the Club del Campo.

At the same time the Scot was preparing to bag his first birdie of the day at the fourth hole, the memorial service for his former coach Adam Hunter was commencing at Daldowie Crematorium in Glasgow.

Good finish can keep Orr out of school

Gary Orr is looking for a bumper pay day in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this weekend to help stave off a trip to the European Tour qualifying school.

Orr, from Helensburgh, lines-up in the £3.2 million pro-am looking to build on the recent burst of form that has kick-started his season.

With back-to-back, top-10 finishes on the European circuit over the past couple of weeks, Orr is up to 129th on the Race to Dubai rankings.
