Gordon Reid claims the men's doubles crown.

McCarroll and Reid (pictured) won in more straightforward circumstances, being given a walkover victory after their Dutch opponents, top seeds Tom Egberink and Ronald Vink, were forced to withdraw after the latter injured his hand in the singles tournament.

Geraint Richards, the Tennis Foundation's head of player performance, said: "It's been a great start to the season for many of our players out here in Australia and to end the run of three ITF 2 Series tournaments with a singles and two doubles titles is very satisfying.

"Jamie, Gordon and Marc have all gained their first titles of 2012 today, Louise and Jordanne have done very well to win back-to-back doubles titles.

"Jamie, Jordanne and Gordon have all beaten world top 10 opposition this week.

Helensburgh ladies 1st veterans team end season on a winning note

Helensburgh Tennis Club

HELENSBURGH ladies 1st veterans team ended their West of Scotland League season on a winning note when they travelled to Bearsden.

The original fixture in September had fallen victim to torrential rain and high winds, but this time the weather was perfect for tennis and the play was of a high standard.

At first couple, newly crowned club champions Karrie Walters and Ann Morison got off to a very slow start, finding themselves 3-0 down before they realised what was going on.

However, once they got the measure of their opponents very differing styles — one a lover of the lob, dropshot and no pace, and the other a hard-hitting baseliner — the Helensburgh  pair were in control and became stronger and stronger as the match went on, collecting all three sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-0.

At second couple, Liz Wylie and Suzanne Marshall were always in the driving seat and with Liz in particularly fine form on the serve and volley front, combined with Suzanne's steady ground strokes, they were never under threat and ran out convincing winners 6-2, 6-3, 6-1, giving Helensburgh an overall 6-0 victory.

Having had three wins, one draw and one loss to league winners Clarkston, the team will certainly retain their position in division one, finishing either second or third.

Ladies team excellent win

Helensburgh Tennis Club

HELENSBURGH Tennis Club's 1st ladies veterans team recorded an excellent win in their penultimate West League match of the season against a very strong Newlands side in very wet and windy conditions.

At first couple Karrie Walters and Ann Morison were up against a pair who both hold British national age group singles titles but, not to be overwhelmed, the Helensburgh duo started off in cracking form, collecting the first set 6-3 with Karrie's great serving helping the cause.

However, as the weather deteriorated, the vastly experienced pair from Glasgow became stronger and Karrie and Ann were unable to maintain their dominance, losing the last two sets by the same margin of 6-3.

Meanwhile, the second pair of Liz Wylie and Suzanne Marshall were playing their best match of the season.  The combination of Suzanne's consistency from the baseline and Liz's attacking volleys were enough to give them all three sets, each 6-3, and therefore secure an overall 4-2 win for the Helensburgh side.

The men's 1st vets team lost 6-0 to top club Esporta Hamilton. The team were never expected to win but were pleased with their performances. The indoor courts and lights were difficult to adjust to, but the standard of tennis was excellent. The team have one more match to play and any sets gained at Broomhill next Monday should ensure they stay in the top division.

The ladies 5th vets team beat Westerton 4-2 with the first couple Alison Fotheringham and Jane Chambers just losing 2-1 and the second couple of Andrea Hunt and Sandra White winning 3-0.

It was a similar score line at Thorn Park where once again Alison Fotheringham and Jane Chambers lost 2-1 and the second couple of Andrea Hunt and Carol Young won all three sets. Both couples played well in foul weather.
