Head kept ice cream money

A HEADTEACHER pocketed £50 a week from renting out a spot in his playground to an ice-cream van, a tribunal heard yesterday.

But Donald Matheson, didn't repay any cash until auditors appeared at his posh school.

The allegations were heard by a disciplinary board of the General Teaching Council Scotland, of which 59-year-old Matheson was once chairman.Witness Maureen Purves, 55, told how £50 was left for the head each week after a van was allowed into the grounds of Hermitage Academy, Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, in October 2003.
