A DROP or five of the cratur helped Helensburgh Rotary Club raise £400 for the Help for Heroes charity on Friday evening.
Members of Rotary, Round Table, the 41 Club and the Helensburgh Whisky Group gathered in the Rugby Club for an interesting presentation given by burgh man Fraser Thornton, managing directors of Burn Stewart Distillers since 2003, covering the history of whisky, its progressive rise in popularity through the years, and the economic hurdles that the industry now faces.
There was also an opportunity to sample some of Burns Stewart’s own brands — Deanston, Tobermory, Bunnahabhain and Black Bottle — and the chance to win some excellent whisky in a raffle.
The event was organised by the Rotary Club’s senior vice-president, David Campbell, who said afterwards: “It was a very enjoyable evening and it raised a worthwhile sum for this excellent charity which helps those who have been wounded in Britain's current conflicts.”
